Saaremaa Island remained isolated from the Estonian mainland during the years of Soviet domination and retains its own culture, traditions and ways of life. Estonians come during the summer months to relax in this crime-free society.

There are only a few windmills remaining where once there were over 800. A short stop to photograph the remaining five in a cluster before proceeding to the 4,000 year old Kaali Crater and Kuressaare, the capital for two nights.
