  • I'm really impressed how many people are aware of Chomsky. especially the young. The guy's 82. we've got to savour every breath.

  • Noam Chomsky you are an amazing human being and have completely inspired me through your wisdom and conscience.

  • @ludvan67 A journalist that fails to pull up inaccuracies in his interviewee replies is an amateur in my book, no matter how big is pay packet is. And as a license fee payer it pains me to say I'm paying him not to do his job properly. Thats why I call him an amateur. Also, ref 2005 election, when he was still lucid, he asked george galloway "Are you proud of having got rid of one of the very few black women in parliament?" eh, what a dumb question. Andrew Marr's another amateur.

  • @ludvan67 What would you call a journalist who when interviewing Tony Blair allowed TB to get away with saying Saddam Hussein threw the weapons inspectors out in 1998, when in fact the UN withdrew them as them US had announced it was going to commence bombing, despite the inspectors saying that the IRAQ authorities were complying with the inspections. I don't judge Paxman on the size of his pay packet, but the accuracy and quality of his questioning / crossexaminations. He fails regularly.

  • @pablohanc Well at 750,000 a year he does pretty well for an amateur. Did not see the 2005 election broadcasts. I'll do a search for it.

  • @ludvan67 Don't agree. He needn't have felt silly. I think the general concensus is that Howard looked more foolish for not answering the question.

In general though, Paxman is a pretty amateur interviewer. The Chomsky interview highlights that. The greek statement you refer to is another example of his amateur status, a headline grabbing shock question rather than a well thought out series of questions. And what was he playing at on the 2005 election broadcasts? Was he drunk???

  • @pablohanc Because as I said on reflection, and after viewing the tape, he probably felt abit silly. Don't get me wrong, I like Paxman, and totally dislike Howard. A conservative, and a Romanian. Could one be anything worse? Paxman recently said to a Greek; "Why are the Greeks so dishonest" youtube[dot]com/watch?v=7BJ8-mtJWJI That I'm sure he regrets afterwards. Not nice.

  • @ludvan67 I have no idea at all whether Paxman was telling the truth when he said he was getting a meesage in his ear telling him he couldn't go onto the next article. But it was Paxman saying that was the case on the TV program. Maybe Paxmans lieing, although I doubt it. Why lie about an incident in which the MP looked like the fool, not the interviewer.

  • @pablohanc I have doubts about that. Paxman could have gone on to another subject he is very well informed. Perhaps on reflection he felt a bit embarrassed or a bit silly for repeating the same question so many times. He is human. We all do silly things, that on refection we would like to have the tape wiped so to speak.

  • @ludvan67 Paxman has admitted on one of those "100 most cringeworth moments on tv programs" that the only reason he kept asking the same question over and over with Howard was he'd been given a message in his ear piece that there was technical problem with the next article on newsnight. He had to ad-lib. Was very funny though.

  • Long Live Noam Chomsky

  • @shwwnn Having watched the interview at the noting the points you mention I see nothing wrong. Perhaps it's the British style of interviewing that is much more aggressive than in the US (FOX news apart that is just moronic & rude). Paxman asks the questions several times until he gets the answer he wants like a prosecutor in court. In fact he was very mild with Chomsky, probably because of the respect he has for him, and his age.
