When you knit stripes you can carry along the yarn not in use along the edge. This way you don't have multiple thread ends to fasten afterward. Before each new row from RS twist the working yarn around the tread/threads not in use, and then continue.

Hi, if you plan to use the yarn again, you can have that strand follow along the side too.

You can have several strands follow along the edge, but not too many as this would make the side too bulky. As soon as you are done with a color and know you will not use it again, then cut the yarn.
