My take on one of my favorite 80s songs, and bands. The Fixx were an alternative to the fluffy pop that was shooting up the charts in those days. Their lyrics were more thoughtful, meaningful, and the musicians were top notch. I couldn't possibly funk out as hard as Jamie West-Oram on guitar, so I made this a moodier rendition, and since that meant ditching the main groove riff, I had to come up with a middle for the song, so I wrote a bridge of sorts, using 4 lines from the song, with a new melody and chords. Sometimes you need to strip these things down to hear the pretty melody and song hiding underneath the studio sheen. I think the title means to be free, to not need saving, to be independent. I hope this kills all the bad Toyota jingles that abused this song. The video was done in one hour of shooting, and one hour of editing. A new record for the bedroom videos! Kinda shows though. Oh well.
Enjoy.
