On Feb. 18, 2012, Archbishop Thomas Collins was formally inducted into the College of Cardinals at a Public Consistory in the Vatican. The Archbishop of Toronto is now the 16th Cardinal in Canadian history. During the ceremony, the Cardinal Designate was called forward by Pope Benedict XVI. He was given his red biretta and ring, as well as his assignment of a titular church in Rome.
