Let me explain. This ground has not been broken for many years if ever. I plan on plowing it one time and one time only. Therefore, I did not want to buy a plow and this one was available to be borrowed. It is a Ferguson 2 bottom plow that requires about 35 drawbar horsepower to pull. We didn't happen to have that much power available with 1 tractor so we got to looking around the farm and found we had another Kubota sitting in the barn. So with some quick math we decided we might just have enough power to get the job finished with a small push/pull operation. Well, sure enough in less than day and about 5 gallons (approximately) of fuel we plowed about to 2 acres of ground. I know I am going to hear a lot of noise about how we should have bought a bigger tractor or found a smaller plow but to use an old hot rodder saying," we just run what we brung"!! We ran a disk harrow over it today (March 7, 2009) and it is now ready for a tiller and just in the nick of time for planting season.

  • people can say what they will, all that really matters is at the end the day the job is done. Rednecks are like Marines, they do the most with the least!!! I can say that because I'm both!!

  • Am I missing something here? Why not hook the plow up to the bigger tractor that is doing the pulling? Also, if your center link is adjusted correctly, that plow should pull itself down to China if you let it without the extra weight.

  • Plow field - check. Don't spend any money doing it - check! Awesome!

  • I think it is an awesome example of making do. I will stick this in my thinks to remember when in a tight spot.

  • @wstarcummins I don't doubt you did, if a 12 hp cub cadet can pull 1-12 you should be able to pull 2 or maybe even 3. But, it all depends on the ground. We turned over a hay field for a neighbor a few years back. There was some clay that was so hard that the front of the tractor came up and you had to put the clutch in, you could raise and lower the front wheels with the 3 pnt. That was a 14,000 lb 150 hp JD pulling 4-16s.

  • @waults This year I plowed unbroken sod with a 2wd 28hp tractor no issues, also with a 2-16 plow.

  • @wstarcummins In unbroken sod? This looks like a real battleground.

  • @aerospears7 Amen, finally a voice of reason on u2b

  • @JMER817 You put the higher hp tractor "on land" to make the most use of the extra weight and hp it has, and to keep it's traction on unbroken ground. The first tractor, when hooked above the front axle of the second, pulls down on the front, as well as the plow does in the rear, therefore making the lighter tractor with the plow use it's hp more effectively.

You are right though about the weights though, but maybe getting through the surface was difficult?

  • What I don't get.. "found another kubota sitting in the barn"? What? You forgot that you had it? It just materialized?

I know just figure of speach, just had to give some sxxt.

Farmers have been hooking tractors together for decades to get jobs done. Back when they were developing highways over mountains they would send a dozer down a slope hooked to another one on top with a winch so they could pull it back up. Good thinking here, was a one time job, run what you have!

  • @MrYas33n No kiddin... dont think they know what their talkin bout either...... haha

  • @wstarcummins sometime peoples they don t realizzzze what they r doing man
