At the Santa Ana Genbu-Kai Dojo we celebrate Mochitsuki (Making Mochi) once a year around new years time. Mochi is a rice pounded Japanese desert often eaten with azuki bean, shoyu, or kinako. The three step process to mochitsuki is to cook the rice in preferibly a wooden box steamer, pound the rice with wooden hammers, and then finally make the pounded rice into palm sized pieces. The rice needs to be cooked just right to make mochi or else the mochi will become tough or too sticky. Anyways the event is a whole lotta fun and the mochi is awesome
