''Jesus died for somebody's sins but not mine'' seems so provocative STILL(!) in 2012! I know in 1966 Lou Reed told anybody who would listen that if the subjects he wrote SONGS about appeared in BOOKS like 'Naked Lunch', 'Junky', 'Last Exit to Brooklyn' etc. publishers would be able to PUBLISH these subjects with (mostly) no trouble. But songs and rock and roll were a different matter. Patti has the capacity to still shock us with the very first line of her first album! QUITE an achievement!

@chairde My life has been one giant back stage pass. On my first trip to NYC in 1978 I met Patti at the restaurant/bar of 1/5th. She was so very cool and friendly, like we'd known each other all our lives. I will never forget that bony strong handshake.

I went to High School with Patti and didn't know she could sing. She could draw and paint really well. She used to make cartoons in study hall that were fantastic. She would draw a picture of a dog shitting on a sidewalk and things like that. Man I wish I still had some of those pictures. We had a special name for her that my brother and his wife shouted out at a concert once. She let them go backstage. So cool, forever cool!!!

When I was a senior in high school, you know how they have a little paragraph where you can put quotes or whatever? I put "Jesus died for somebody's sins but not mine" and they CENSORED IT. I mean, they did not include it at all. Nobody ever told me "Hey, choose something else"..it just wasn't there when the yearbook came out. Yet it was okay to have a billion other people saying "I want to thank Jesus Christ for helping me get to this point." etc. I was so mad :(
