CHANNEL 4 FILM FOR 100th WOMEN'S DAY MARKS SNP ACHIEVEMENTS
The SNP will tonight (Saturday) broadcast a film, specially commissioned
to mark International Women's Day, on Channel 4.
The film -- to be broadcast across the UK at 18.25 on Saturday 5th March --
is introduced by Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and features five
of the SNP's female MSPs talking about the SNP Government's achievements
for women and families across Scotland.
Part of Channel 4's Political Slot, the film is the first Scottish
political broadcast to feature solely women politicians and is being
broadcast ahead of the 100th Women's Day on Tuesday 8th March which
celebrates achievements of women all over the world.
SNP Depute Leader and Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon who is also
addressing the Scottish Women's Convention in the Scottish Parliament
today said:
"To mark 100 years of women's day the SNP is putting our forward some of
our leading women to talk about some of our achievements in making
Scotland a fairer and more successful nation for women and their families.
"This film, featuring only women MSPs, is a first for a Scottish party.
As Deputy First Minister and the SNP's Depute Leader I believe we must
always ensure that the voice of women in politics is heard equally and
clearly. The SNP has a long track record of strong women speaking up for
a successful and fairer Scotland and the MSPs who join me in this film are
part of that tradition.
"In the film I and others talk about the achievements we are proud of,
that have helped not just women, but families and communities right across
Scotland. From increasing the number of dentists to backing small
businesses, helping create record low crime levels or building hundreds of
new schools the actions of the SNP Government working have delivered real
improvements for people across Scotland..
"The SNP has achieved a lot as Scotland's Government over the last four
years but there is more to do. We have worked together with other
parties, with community groups, the business community and trade unions to
make Scotland better for women and their families.
"But only with your support in May to re-elect the SNP team can we
continue our work to make Scotland fairer and more successful for women,
families and communities across the country."
