This is the first aria I ever heard the GRAND Leyla sing - and I was captivated for life. Those pianissimi - including interpolated Ds!! - are truly magnificent. They simply melt your heart. And when it came to confrontation scenes - except for Maria Callas - Leyla had no equal!
Thank God for all her pirated recordings!!

@uyildiz I think he/she was only referring that the record companies never gave her the credit she deserved. Studio recordings of Gencer in her prime could have been awesome instead we got other great sopranos recording the same roles twice!

HORRIBLE EDITING! "Sento mancarmi" is a grand moment, and we don't see Leyla, but a rock wall.

Gencer was a supremely talented soprano. She had a dramatic vocal style that nevertheless sounded beautiful and natural. Her Leonora here is fabulous, showing knowledge of Verdi's music. Whatever this film was for, she looked and acted wonderfully in it. A voice of this greatness can only come once in a century. What a great singer she was, and sadly underrated.

for me the best intepretations of this aria are: Gencer, Ricciarell, Frittoli and Price of course there are countless of other great great intepretations.
GORGEOUS!! Why didn't Gencer ever get the credit she deserved?!?

I don't agree with you. The major drawback of her career could be the lack of records. Otherwise, she still has an established group of admirers after stopping singing after almost 30 years ago. Pirate labels keep releasing her undiscovered records etc. She might have preferred to not be a media star in sharp contrast to some of her homologues.
