A short documentary about the Demoscene, an artistic and staunchly non-commercial computer subculture. This film discusses scene history, demo groups, and of course parties. It was made for "Mindcandy Volume 1: PC Demos," a DVD that archives several classic PC productions.

Uploaded at the request of the director.

  • can these "demo experts" who release documents and documentaries about the demoscene pls quit perpetuating this myth that "sceners" are all spotty-faced teenagers. i'm 31 and still producing demos, most of the "top" demosceners i know are in their late 20s early 30s.

    so please, get a clue.

  • @MustNotRead The documentary was filmed in 2002, when the filmmakers were 31. All the talk about teenagers was when we were talking about the birth of the scene which was most definitely teenagers (there were no 31-yr-olds at the birth of the demoscene). The later talk about demoparties did not allude it to being only teens.

Most of the "top" sceners are actually in their late 30s -- the scene is getting older, and sceners with it. I'm 40 (and still coding in asm).

    Sorry you didn't like it.

  • I wouldn't be so happy about the fact that demo making nowadays is not about brain and coding talent...

  • @AMYuntold Please keep in mind that Demographics was filmed in 2001, which hopefully puts some perspective on some of the comments.

no, certainly do like the documentary. it is simply the part about sceners "being teenagers". i see it said a lot (wikipedia's description of scene, that demoscene book that was released recently, etc)

but you are right, this particular documentary was released a long time ago. when perhaps most of the scene were still teenage.

  • there's actually a very broad mix of age ranges in the scene today.

  • Good job off to watch part 2

  • hehe, go trixter and hornet, never saw this o.O say hi to andy from me ^^

  • Yeah man, thanks for putting that up. I was thinking of doing that myself.
