I like the op[ening 2 minutes or so but then it becomes a bit too referential to the Listz Piano concertos - just with some more novel orchestration. Some of the comments are overly harsh. I think this deserves to be heard - maybe not a ton but I am unsure about it being kept on the shelf.
I find it informative as how difficult it was for composers to write a piano concerto under the shadow of Listz and Brahms.
Why this meets with neglect should be no freaking mystery after listening to this, yet Richter was a sucker for it, and with me being an asshole for the Slavic/Russian thing, I got something out of it too, but I can't figure the Pollacky element in it.

Easily the best piano concert I've heard. Rimsky-Korsakov had very progressive orchestration for his time.

Perhaps we could compare this to the recording of Ponti; Ponti has an abundance of energy yet this version seems to lack vitality...
