Elio Pace - I Can See Clearly Now (Live on 'Weekend Wogan' BBC Radio 2)

The great Elio Pace and his brilliant band perform a sublime version of Johnny Nash's classic hit 'I Can See Clearly Now' live on 'Weekend Wogan' BBC Radio 2 on Sunday, July 4th 2010.

This show was a special one for Elio as it was his father's 70th birthday that day and he, along with Elio's mother and sisters, was in the audience watching. As a special birthday gift for him, Elio sang a beautiful Italian song (in Italian) called 'Rose Rosse' in the 'Elio's Aperitif' slot. There can't have been a song in Italian played, let alone sung live, on Radio 2 for quite a few years, if ever, I'd imagine. What with the combination of Terry's dedication to Mr Pace Senior and Elio singing so passionately from the heart for him (you can hear his voice falter in places with the emotion of it all), it was a very moving moment indeed, not lost on us listening at home. One very proud father he must be.

The BBC chose to visually highlight 'I Can See Clearly Now' that week but I hope it's not too long before we get to see the video for 'Rose Rosse'. While we wait, I will upload the audio of Elio's special performance.
