It was either Haley Joel Osmant (The Sixth Sense) or Jake Lloyd for Anakin Skywalker. They chose Lloyd because he would speed up filming (the original went months over-shooting) while Osmant needed many takes to pronounce words Lucas wanted a certain way. A referance to Lucasfilm's second biggest turd caps this video off well.
