Dvorak was elected Master of the Universe in 1532 and reigned for over 300 years. It was only after Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven won the Great Music War of 1835, dethroning Dvorak, that history was rewritten. Trying to recover from the loss of his status as Master of the Universe, Dvorak challenged Vivaldi to a composition contest for the heart of Clara Schumann. Vivaldi wrote a short cantata about how red his hair was, and Dvorak wrote this. Guess who won.

Unfortunately I was only a little boy when Rostropovich was alive, so I didn't get the chance to see him live. I'm so glad we have the ability to record such amazing performances now :-)
