The Candy Twins
CD now available from www.banquetrecords.com/thecandytwins

Fourth and final song from my session at Joe Public's studios. For the best audio quality go to http://www.myspace.com/thecandytwins
This is my favourite of the four (even though I know I Don't Know Why is possibly more single material) - I love the clunky Crazy Horse-style rhythm guitar. Also this had least added compared to the YouTube original. Just bass, drums, and acoustic guitar.

Lyrics:

He holds on to his memories
They are all he has left
Of a love that was never going to grow

Friends were reunited
He saw her red dress
And he knew all that he had to know

She came up closer to him and she
Whispered in his ear:
"This is what I want to say to you."

"What we had was good but now it's
All in the past.
You've got to move on to something new."

Hold on to your memories
They are all that that you've got
Of something good and something true
Hold on to your memories
Give it another shot
And see if she will talk to you

He tried to persuade her
By looking into her eyes
And falling into the deepest blue

He thought she was melting and he
Moved up very near
And said I want to tell you something I thought you already knew

"When you were below me
And I heard your call
That four-letter word it wasn't lust"

And then she touched him
And drew him close
And said: "C'mon and love me if you must."

Hold on to your memories etc

  • wow, excellent lyrics, again, and the music's so perfect for them, the whole thing really conveys the kinda sad hope sitaution thing to me.

  • Many thanks! This was one of four I did in the studio recently. Not sure which part of the UK your uni is, but if you're anywhere near London the guy I used is well worth it - because he'll produce you plus add all the additional instrumentation. So if you wanted to do a demo he'd be a good place to start.

  • sounds like pearl jam. but i think its still good

  • Pearl Jam - that's a new one. Comparisons so far have been Joy Division, the Wedding Present, Sugar and Bob Mould. But even though I'm not a Pearl Jam fan I'll take it as a compliment. Cheers!

  • This is my favourite I think, more closely to my tastes than the others! I rellay like the neil strumming feel and the chorus is beautiful! Amazingly well done!

  • Beirouth you've gone. Why have YouTube deleted you? Their and our loss but I hope you come back in some form because I liked watching your stuff as that Atlantic breeze blew in over the Azores. YouTube should be ashamed!

  • Great voice! Yeah, and that certain craazy equine sound...Love your sound my friend!

  • lol, VERY flattering that anybody'd think i should/could do a demo, but the vids i've uploaded are pretty much my first forrays into half-decent songwriting, i'm currently highly dubious that i can equal seasons or no particular insight, heh.. but like i say, wow, thanks :)

  • Cheers Stephen - very kind.

  • great song!

    one of your best!!

    thanks

  • Cheers beirouth - very kind of you. It's pretty much the same chords all the way through played in slightly different positions with a few variations, but as a result the chorus sounds quite different, cos I play some sort of Em 7/G thingy up at the 14th and 15th frets.
