I think you don't really understand where many skeptics are coming from. Many of us would love to believe in this stuff. We just require some strong evidence. You are right to say we can't prove an afterlife. What I can say though is that we can perform rigorous tests. What about getting a person who claims they're a medium and let them individual talk to 20 different people and have a 90% accuracy from each person, where the person can't talk back to him. Go on, say "but thats not how it works"

James Randi is close-minded and his test is biased. If Schwartz' test which "proved" the legitimacy of the mediums tested was "unscientific", then how could Randi's test be "scientific". Not only would Randi's test "prove" nothing, but it's biased according to his criteria of what can be considered evidence. There are real mediums as well as fake mediums, just as there are real doctors as well as charlatans.

I am an atheist, I do not believe in deities, authenticity of religion, and I do not believe in the paranormal. I know I'll die and that's it. I refuse to believe in claims just because they would provide temporary relief. I just prefer to find out the realities of nature through science, which is far more exciting and beautiful. However, I am living a happy, enthusiastic life and trying to help others around me live good lives. Count me.
