This video was shot this morning (26-May-07) at Kandahar Air Field, Afghanistan, on a digital camera in video mode. At first it might seem as though the video is being shot in slow motion, but it isnt. The shutter speed somehow matched the speed of the rotor blades and made it look like it was going slow. Very cool video, enjoy.

  • toy

  • Ahh geez. You're an idiot if you truly think this is a toy, or was filmed in slow motion and mixed with regular sound. It has to do with the rotor speeds syncing up with the speed of the digital shutter. I'm amazed at how many dumb ass comments I'm having to delete lately because people think this is some kind of trick or fake, or that the helicopter isn't real.

  • THEY'RE ROTORS.....NOT PROPS!!!!!!

  • I'm going to allow this comment, simply to point something out to you. If you look in the info section of the video, (it hasn't changed since I uploaded this) that it says rotors. The gentleman whos voice you hear, was the one filming. You are correct, but if you'd read the info, you'd see that information is already there.

  • Hey Casey. If he ever gets his stuff packed. We were supposed to fly out the same day but he's a demob so hes lower priority. Otherwise Id have made sure he got on the plane personally. =) Tell him he needs to get off his duff and get his stuff mailed. -Brian

  • It wasnt a camcorder, it was a camera that was in film mode, thats probably why. Not sure what type it is, it's in my boss's office and Im too lazy to go look. =P

  • @kuciaotopi Not unless something bad happens like a broken drive shaft. The blades are "phased" so that they don't come into contact. The Chinook is the only helicopter that can have a mid-air collision with itself. I used to work on these once upon a time.

  • JUST CHILL OUT......HOW about this have a good time/// and enjoy the time and age you live in......400 years ago you might be a slave lifting 200lbs stones; or something worse......then you can complain

  • @kuciaotopi the blades are actually designed to cross the paths of each other, but both engines are hooked up to a differential system which shares the power equally to the two sets of rotor blades (each engine powers both blades instead of one for the front and back) and they're mechanically joined so that if one moves, the other moves at the same speed so they don't collide

learned that from one of the RAF pilots who flies these every day :)

oh and it has 16 gearboxes for power transmission

  • Will the blades hit each other? i know 1 is higher and the other is lower, but for example when turning a an angle the wind hitting on the blades causing the blades to bend.

  • coooooool

  • That is just too cool for words! what synchronization! I wondered for a second if the helicopter was being lowered by some gigantic crane or something.... thanks, very cool. Oh and don't worry about the idiots who think your video is fake, some people are becoming unbelievably daft and ignorant... you'd think we'd get smarter with all of the information available today but it seems the opposite is true... it's sad.... Anyway, I like your video and if you served in Afghanistan, thank you.

  • @wreksangel Thats a great quote !!!

  • @nuki255 its the low frame rate right?

  • land on a house! it looks like the props are barely moving because the camera cant see the roaters moving fast it does the same thing for my phone go take your phone camera and go film and start up of a plane and watch it on ur screen

  • @wardawgone Lol, there are tons of cicilian chinooks. Logging companies use them....hell just search 'civilian chinook'
