Reason senior editor Michael C. Moynihan sits down with Daniel Hannan, the Milton Friedman-loving member of European Parliament representing South East England, to discuss his infamous showdown with Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Enoch Powell, his opinion of the British National Health Service, and what the Republicans could learn from the recent successes of Britain's Conservative Party.

Reason.tv interviewed Hannan in early August before he spoke at the Heritage Foundation in Washington, DC. His talk can be viewed here: http://heritage.org

@MsZeitgeist85 A mixed healthcare system, yes but that would still mean privatising 50% of the NHS. Which is considered privatisation.

@MrGilles1990 So are you advocating a mixed system? That is what the countrys that rank the highest have.
MsZeitgeist85 1 week ago
@MsZeitgeist85 It's about 70% but even so it's a private system to the common Brit.

@MissEgasMoniz My fucking ass it is. The NHS outpreforms the USA for profit system in every area and they spend less than half the money.
Tens of thousands of dead Americans every year because HMOs will not cover them is proof of a failed system.

@MrGilles1990 France which is ranked 1 by the WHO has 80% of its system nationalized. Germany ranked 24 is the non profit Bismark Model. The UKs NHS is ranked 18th.

@Bubo25 You say he is a Nazi, then you say he is a capitalist, he is either one or another make your mind up.
MrGilles1990 1 week ago
@MsZeitgeist85 A French or German healthcare would be preferable, the NHS does not work for the 21st century.
MrGilles1990 1 week ago
The NHS is a failure - waiting 10 months for a simple procedure is a sign of a broken system. At least the Yanks have better doctors and hospitals then we do.

@Bubo25 Where is your proof that he is greedy? Capitalism is not greed, it is reward for the most successful. Greed is more likely to come from lazy socialists like you who think the government owes you something.
