Gee... a switch for tone or pulse depending on which kind of phone you have? Health Care is the only industry that can still make money selling 1980s technology. God bless America.

This video cracks me up. The best part is at the end when @hnbbs reads "Property of Medtronic Inc." and wonders if Medicare or his insurance were charged for it.
Whaddaya think? I'll give you one guess.
Priceless!

is it made in the USA?

@enjoyride I am guessing the intention is too make this technology available for the entire pool of patient population. If that is the case, this is obsolete technology as it still cannot transmit data directly via cell phone/Ethernet/Bluetooth or even a PC. Seriously in this age how many of them have a landline at home The concept of remote monitoring should stand by it name and promise of absolute remote monitoring. Patient data that can be transmitted and accessible easily anywhere.

@hugooc The Carelink monitor is ordered directly through a secure Medtronic website. The same site that is used by physician to access data downloaded from monitor. The monitor is shipped free of charge to patient. Neither patient or physician ever see a bill for any such equipment.

Guess what! Pulse dialing still works in the great USA!! There are patients who still have rotary dial phones. BELEVE OR NOT!! As far as Medicare or any other medical insurance provider being charged for the equipment, the answer is NO.
Today, for the first time, I will be using my Medtronic Carelink Monitor. I am going to use the phone line at the apartment office because they have an analog phone line. I use Skype for my phone service. I wish Medtronic had a device that I could use over the computer.

@bernieborn Not sure if it was made in USA or not. I boxed it back up and have not used it yet. July is the first time I will have to hook it up and use it. I will try and make a video then and answer the question of if it was made in the USA. I use Skype and it will not work with Skype so I got to find someplace that I can use their phone jack.
I will worry about that in July (2011).
