it is awful how many hospitals are run..it affects the patients and it buns out nurses...and yeah i drink tons of coffee but at hour 14 on my shift with no lunch break and i havent gone to the bathroom in god knows when then my only human body just gives out!!!

as a 10 year nurse in critical care working in short staff hospital i can say amen..and it doesnt have a damn thing to do with poor time management..i am expected to take 3 pt assignments with patients whose acuity would be 1 on 1 in other hospitals...unless you have walked a mile in these shoes you have no idea!!!

@justmekasie it's not about being tired. You can drink all the coffee your big ass can handle.. It's about the fact that 9 x out of 10, as a nurse u are taking on at least twice the amt of patients that you can handle bc of time. There are not enough hours in the shift to possibly do things safely and correctly sometimes. It's hell.

so true...for those of you who are not nurses, we obviously aren't going to tell a patient having chest pain to suck it up because we haven't peed. But if you only knew....
"You are supposed to be my stable patient" hahaha

This is one of many reasons I am now a funeral director and not an RN anymore. Being an RN was a MISTAKE and was a second career bad decision!
