that really proofs that when you sell artwork you're not selling art you're selling autographs , these are great for a 4 year old but if she was 14 and could do better she won't sell because she's not 4
, people don't like it because it's something no one else can do or because it's creative or new
people like it because the artist is someone who is 4 years old and that's the new thing for them no matter what the painting looked like

I do think the value of Marla’ paintings had as much to do with the fact that this child created them as it did with the art itself. Michael Kimmelman Chief Art Critic for The NYT says that abstract art tells stories about the characters who made these pictures he says in Marla’s case it may be the story of the child and that story is what captures peoples attention. He says that there’s a spiritual element to Marla’s art that appeals to people. This idea of innocent creation.
