Merle Oberon and Laurence Olivier in 'The Divorce of Lady X' (1938) directed by Tim Whelan. This film was made the year before Oberon and Olivier starred in 'Wuthering Heights'.

  • I'm fairly certain there is no 'tunnel of love' scene in this film.

  • In this film I think she is at her cutest. It is available on DVD from Amazon UK.

  • I have a very old copy of the film. A DVD version was released in 2010 and is available from Amazon UK.

  • 1:25, "No(!) Goodnight". ♥

  • @gemini16th

She was half british, half Sri Lankan actually =)

  • i saw this TCM last summer and I can't ever find it online, anybody know?

  • Who is the band playing in the tunnel of love scene?

  • Merle Oberon was so beautiful! She was british, but actually came from India, and was of half-Indian and half-british blood. She virtually kept this fact a secret her entire career. This is from a rare, 1938 comedy she did with Laurence Olivier- just before "Wuthering Heights"(again with Olivier,1939). She did have a sense of humor, and you should see the entire film if you can find it (I was lucky to find it on VHS). "Princess Merle" by Charles Higham(1983) is a wonderful biography.

  • I have an old VHS copy that's terrible quality. I'm glad to see a new DVD has been released!
