Sometimes to argue, get angry or prove that your right is a waste of time and effort

So yesterday, I was getting fuel at the blackburgs SC flying. The card reader wouldn't work so i went inside to get the pump turn on, I said hello, she said nothing,

I said hello again, she said, nothing the 3rd time she said can i help you. I laughed and said yes, can I get pump 29 turned on. She said then look at the screen and said are you sure, I said yes 29 i looked at it good before i came in. She said no, I said yeah, she said no, i said yeah, she said in it already on.
I said well turn it off because It didn't take my card so I don't know what it is doing but I didn't key in any information.

She said no, i said why, it's my pump, I need it started with my info.

About that time a guy came in and told her he gave her the wrong pump he was on 28. Whe means she turn 29 on for him.

I said see, and she said see, what if I would have cut his pump off, you can't just cut someone's pump off.

I said wait a minute he wasn't at 29 which was on he was at 28 so if you would have cut it off, his pump would be off.

She said again, that ain't right, I just can't cut someone's pump off because someone tells me to, he would have been mad. I was about to try and explain to her again
that if she had cut 29 pump off, if wouldn't have mattered to him because that is not the pump he was at, but I decided to just let it go and move
on with getting my pump turned on.

I don't know if she ever figured that out, but I quickly decided that it would be a waste of time trying to get her to figure it out. I could be fueling and getting back on the big road.

Besides when I looked at the big picture, she knew either I or the other guy had given the wrong pump number. So evidently the other guy did a better job convincing her that he new what he was talking about! lol, So was lit her fault for believing him or my fault that I wasn't convincing. (Just playing here)

So there was two lesson in this situation for me.

1.Choose your battles, let some things go.
2.Look at things from the other person's perspective. She had no way of know who was right.


She had to make a judgment call and she did, wasn't in my favor but life goes on.
No big deal really. Even though it ended the way it did.

Often times in life we may find ourselves in these little battles of insignificance. it could be with kids, spouse, dot or dispatcher. Sometimes, it's a waste of time to even keep trying to get the other person to see what you are talking about even if you are right.

It really won't matter at the end of the day.

We have to pick our battles, that is especially true with parents, there are many things that children should not get away with, it's lesson learning time, but sometimes there are those little trivial non issues, let them go so time can be spend correcting the reals issues.

We also find ourselves in this situation with our spouse, dispatcher and other people that we deal with from time to time. Choose your battles, don't make everything an issue.

(Glad I caught myself that time! lol)

That is actually a good truck stop. The manager was riding around with hot water and windshield washer fluid for the buckets at the fuel islands.
