One of the exercises in the sport of Schutzhund involves being able to send your dog to search 6 blinds on the field. The helper or decoy is always in the 6th blind. By the time the dog reaches Sch2 and Sch3, it knows exactly where the decoy is when it enters the field. Every dog wants to go directly to the 6th blind and the blind search is an exercise in control of the dog. In this short video, Michael Ellis will talk about how he trains the blind search in Schutzhund.

  • A dog would not get confused between a toy or bite wedge in the blind and a helper wearing a bite sleeve.

  • very good - one thing I don't get at 4:53 he says the dog can get all weird if he doesn't find the helper - so he puts ball or tug in blind and not a decoy. But doesn't same situation happens if you work with the ball or tug and the dog doesn't find it?
