Over the Waves Dukes of Dixieland 1958 The Dukes of Dixieland in 1958 at a Timex watch sponsored show. We see Papa Jac and Fred Assunto playing trombones being featured on the tune " Over the Waves". Brother Jack Assunto plays the trumpet.
The Dukes from New Orleans were one of the most popular jazz bands in the country based in New Orleans. In 1959 The Dukes had a chance to record a LP with Louis Armstrong

  • The Dukes of Dixieland did a wonderful job with this song. However, for the record, "Over the Waves" is "Sobre las Alas" and was composed by México's famous international musician/composer/band leader/violinist/pianist, José Juventino Policarpo Rosas Cadenas (January 25, 1868 – July 9, 1894).

  • That final four bar break at the end was old Red Hawley on drums. I bumped into him about eight years ago playing at Captain Hirams in Sebastian Florida. The man had some great stories, He also was with Don Goldie here in Miami. a very swinging drummer
