@jdantzie Because God is Love he therefore MUST hate. You need to understands Gods attributes my friend. I love babies therefore I hate abortion. God loves good and righteousness and thus hates evil and sin. Your analogy could not possibly be anymore wrong.
God executing his holy & just wrath against those deserving of punishment is not evil, mean, or unloving. He loved the world so much that he gave the most precious thing he had... his Son & he died for us. Believe in Christ.
@jdantzie (continued from last response) If you don't believe the Bible, very well. That is far more intellectually honest than saying you believe the Bible and trying to explain away the difficult doctrines. I don't want to envision a place of eternal suffering anymore than you, but I'll at least be honest that this is pretty obviously what the NT teaches. Your choice to believe or not.
@jdantzie Well, I was answering your original question about "fear tactics" since you initially asked when did Jesus ever try to prod someone to God via fear. Hence, Luke 12:5. As far as Biblical illustration of hell as a place of eternal punishment, there's plenty. However, if you don't want to believe it, you can craftily use all the exegetical gymnastics to explain it away. But, since you asked, the story of Lazarus and the rich man is the most clear.
@sunnsu its not about justice or no justice, its about righteous justice. Where in the bible does it say God hates sinners so much He will burn them forever?
@CaptainCrunchOwns What is your understanding of the word 'hell'? In the Greek the word for hell = gihenna which literally means the grave. This text doesn't say anything about burning someone forever. I think you need to find another text.
just like the thief on the cross, he was not a born again baptist or catholic, neither did he ever read the bible, neither did he say any magical words, or prayers, but still he found Christ in his heart because of his humble and repentant heart which helped him recognise Christ unlike the other theif and the hordes of other pharisees who knew all scriptures and were the chosen people,
God is infinitely loving, hell is not a separate place, there is only God's love, for those who have rejected this love, it is hell, even worse, for those who have humbled themselves in acceptance to this love, it is eternal glory,a person may be a recognized christian, read the bible, maybe born again etcetc and still go to hell because of his ego, and another person may never have heard the gospel of Christ but may have found Christ in his heart and still go to heaven cheers
eternity in hell = Heil! Try lenient
