122 Yard Frisbee Throw and Catch with Davy Whippet - World Record Attempt

This past weekend, Davy Whippet and I attempted the WFDF and Guinness World Record for Distance to Canine Catch which is currently held by Mark Molnar and Cheyenne Whippet at 130 yards which was set in 1994. The dog cannot cross the line until the disc has been thrown and the spot at which the dog first touches the disc is where the mark is spotted. We are allowed a maximum of 15 attempts per day. This is important because there are many factors to take into account - how Davy is feeling, my throw, the wind and where the sun is. This record has been unbroken for 18 years for a reason - it's not easy to break!

This catch, our longest of the 2 days and our personal best so far, was made on Sunday, August 26, 2012 at around 3:23pm MST. Davy Whippet is owned and trained by Lara Sorenson.

Lots of practice! I've been heavily influenced by shotput and discus throwing. What disc sports do you play?

Today I tried to throw it farther to see if my German shepherd can catch it and he caught it once only but it was still fun.

I play a bunch of ultimate frisbee and I also did discus for a little while in high school

I don't see my comment showing up, but both Mark, Avery and I all used Innova Condors (around 135g). They're tough to find but they work really well for this record. The biggest thing is making sure the disc is safe for the dog to catch (ie don't use something like an Aviar)

He's a great catcher...a lot of these record attempts he just wasn't able to get to because he's not used to running that far

He's so awesome...even when I have a bad throw that isn't catchable, he'll still get it and bring it back :)
