Mast of the Dorothea, a ship rumoured to have carried Boer Republic gold from Lourenco Marques by smugglers, and sank in 1898 near Cape Vidal, KZN north coast, South Africa. Some gold was found on the wreck a couple of years ago. For more information on Cape Vidal snorkeling, visit http://www.easysnorkeling.co.za
Can this be the mast of the Dorothea? I don't think so. All information sources say so, but the barques of the time had solid wooden masts. I do snorkeling trips to this same spot and know that this man made structure is made of iron and is hollow. Perhaps someone else can enlighten us.....
