FREE TIBET part1

This film we made for a University presentation at the HdK, Berlin in 1996. I wish it was completely outdated - but unfortunately - 12 years later - it is still up to date... The reason is: because the Tibet issue itself has not been 'updated'. It got stuck in a world of totalitarian communism. And it got stuck in a worldwide corruption scandal where Human rights are sacrificed for international trade agreements. If China wasn't such an important trade and business partner - no one would accept that lie that 'Tibet is a part of China' and that the Dalai Lama is a separatist. No one would accept that Chinese claim that it as an 'internal affair'. Genocide is never an internal affair. Violation of Human rights is never an internal affair. (Could Hitler have claimed that the holocaust is an internal German affair?) We buy those lies with all the other Chinese goods that we buy every day - and we sell - sell out - we sell our own integrity.
The Tibet issue is not up to date - because the world is not up to date. We are living in the 21st century. And this century can be an age of global tolerance, universal responsibility, non-violent conflict solutions and peace.
Let's update the Tibet issue, let's update history, let's update this world, let's update ourselves.
I hope this little film will be outdated very soon.

The Tibet issue is part of the Cold War. It worsened as the Cold War intensified, and will disappear only when the latter really ends

I'll think about it... it certainly originated from that kind of thinking and mentality... one "superpower" forcing their political convictions upon another nation... regarding an ideology higher than human lifes, values and rights... but you probably don't know what I'm talking about since you are still wearing thoses glasses...

the film is more made for an intelligent audience with an interest in human rights and values.

All the comments made by the people proclaiming their blind faith to China scares and makes me seriously worry about what is going on in the china. Blind faith in their police state. Nothing is more dangerous than this. This worries me as we dive into the new century. Have we not learned from our mistakes?

I agree. I thought those days are way behind in the dark past of my own countries history (Germany).

I always wonder what would have happened if in 1936 the free world would have boycotted the Berlin Olympics.

Probably WWII would have happened anyway.

But: maybe not.

One thing's for sure: It would have had an effect on the course of history.

The Nazi's also used the Olympic games to present the glory of their empire.

And the German people were impressed.

The Tibetan people have had their cultural identity and former rights slowly erased under the Chinese government. This shows why some people may be angry and resort to violence, but the true way of Buddhism is through non-violence, as evident by the monks and countless others, who don't get reported on because they are doing the right thing, and that isn't exciting to the news. More disturbing is the images of the police beating non-violent monks.
