@bdeaner Christians are by no means a homogenous group. It's as diverse a group as saying "White people." This is a song about a particular type of religious person, who rather than turning to religion for a spiritual guide, uses obscure passages from the Bible as a way to launder their hate for others so they can pretend it is acceptable. "I don't hate gay people, GOD hates gay people." "I don't want war, GOD does"(etc.) Yet they ignore the parts that don't fit into their bigoted point of view.

@bdeaner not going to debate red herrings. "You want advice? Don't look to me." He's clearly saying, "I don't know the answer, but I know you're full of it." That's NOT hypocrisy. It's honesty. If you're not capable of basic critical literary analysis you should be listening to RadioDisney, not KEXP.
The point of the song is that certain people are NOT EVEN TRYING to follow the path and failing, but rather that they are taking their beliefs and creating a god in their own image.
