The mind wipe answers the question as to why C3PO doesn't remember the Tatooine, but why doesn't Uncle Owen remember C3PO? He was on his farm for almost 10 years. And how come Obi Won doesn't remember R2D2, or make a statement that he had never owned a Droid? He was around R2D2 quite a lot, and he did own R4.

can you remember the name of every (for example) astromech droid seen onscreen? i always get them confused, and i'm actually *trying* to remember them, because to me they're characters, not just machinery.

@DocAwesome25 it's a seemingly arbitrary string of characters, like the name of every other droid in the galaxy.

as for his voice, we only hear one other protocol droid talk + it sounds like threepio, only female. we can assume that protocol droids are programmed to sound like proper english servants.

everything i said still stands. he's nothing more than a machine to owen lars, a machine he had working for him 20 years ago, with a totally different appearance.

@taffysaur Because he has the same NAME. I doubt they've had very many protocol droids on the farm during the time Anakin's been away and Luke has been growing up. Ten years knowing the name "C-3PO" was the name of your stepmother's only possession--a possession that, even amongst Protocol droids, was EXCEEDINGLY long-winded--would be hard to forget.

@joshjhutton It's simple. It's called the "George Lucas is worse at retconning than he is at actually writing dialogue" principle. It's as true as Newton's Laws of Gravity.

@taffysaur But in this scenario, the toaster talks, has the same speech patterns and voice (remember that we already know that each droid has a distinct voice), and the same mannerisms.

there are literally millions of those droids in the universe. change it to a much more distinct colour + show it to him over 20 years later, it like you being able to identify a toaster you once had (not the same model, the exact toaster out of every other model that looks exactly the same (except yours has been gold-plated so it looks totally different)

yeah, why WOULDN'T he remember? =0P
