@youbetzler Ok, ok, so maybe in everyday communication people use the word democracy loosely to mean a nation ruled by the people. However, they are two distinct forms of government, and politics and talk shows should use the proper terminology. For an article that explains the difference, google "democracy vs. republic" and click on the first link. (I can't post it 'cause links aren't allowed).

@arooobine actually the two aren't mutually exclusive. USA is a democratic republic.
Republic just means a government ruled by the people. This is done in the US through democratically elected leaders ergo It IS A DEMOCRACY
