OH, I FORGOT. THAT LOVELY MELODY, PEGGY GORDON, IS NOT IRISH EITHER. WE ADOPTED IT. BUT SOMEONE SAID REC ENTLY IT IS NOT A SCOTTISH SONG, EITHER!! APPARENTLY, IT CAME FROM CANADA. WHO THE SONGWRITER WAS IS ANYBODY'S GUESS. BUT THE SCOTS AND IRISH ADOPTED THIS LOVELY TUNE. CAN WE NOW SING IT IN A PUB SINGALONG?
OR WOULD SOME THICK LOWER CLASS GOMBEEN TAKE OFFENCE?
-
SOME MUSICAL PUBS WON'T LET YOU SING DANNY BOY in DUBLIN BECAUSE THEY SAY IT IS NOT ORIGINALLY AN IRISH SONG. WELL,NEITHER IS MOLLY MALONE. EVEN KEVIN BARRY IS NOT AN IRISH SONG, MUSICALLY SPEAKING. IT'S A REWORDING OF A SEA SHANTY CALLED TAKE ME BACK TO DEAR OLD BLIGHTY. AS FOR MOLLY MALONE, SHE WAS PROBABLY A LOWER CLASS WHORE. WHO SAYS SHE EVEN EXISTED? BY THE WAY, THE IRISH LINGO WORD FOR WHORE IS ... HOOR. JUST THOUGHT YOU'D LIKE TO KNOW. SLAWN LAT, MO CORRA. CONNOSS TAW TWO?

MOLLY FUCKING MALONE WAS PROBABLY NOT EVEN IRISH, LET ALONE SOME ONE FROM THE BACK STREETS OF DUVLIN-BLAW CLEE. OR ARSEHOLE GARDENS IN BALLYMUN. THE SONG IS ACTUALLY AN ANCIENT STREET SONG FROM EDDINBURROW IN BONNIE SCOTLAND. IT DIED OUT THERE AND WAS REINCARNATED IN DUBLIN WITH NEW WORDS. SO, THERE YOU HAVE IT. WARTS AND ALL. YET HER STATUE IS SITUATED WHERE THE POSH PADDIES DO ALL THEIR SHOPPING. ANNOYING, INNIT?

This is perfect! I know this is random, but I'd like to share how I picture Molly Malone. I think she had dark brown hair and eyes, she was skinny but strong, and she was very simple and humble. I think she sold fish to help her family and she fell in love with ther perfect man, sadly she got a fever from working on the cold streets and died. I think she was between 16 and 18. Can any of you share your discription of Molly please?
