Danny Diaz & The Checkmates were three Filipino brothers with their brother-in-law (Romeo is married to Christine Samson, the one-time singer and bassist with D'Topnotes). They formed in Hong Kong and had a major hit "It's So Easy" in 1966. The group's big break came when they beat out the other top acts like Teddy Robin & The Playboys and The Mystics in the Levi's Battle Of The Bands held in the Hong Kong Football Stadium in 1969. They went to the UK and made a few recordings out there including "Solomon Grundy", 1969 UK). They disbanded in 1982. Danny Diaz stay on the pop scene as a solo act.

Anybody who knows where I could find the Danny Diaz trio??? I know that they migrated to Canada and Romy was left in Hongkong. Kuya Danny looks so different from his pictures in 60´s. But his voice is stronger ..... love these guys

@cristy1254 Danny has returned from Canada, Hong Kong is now his permanent base, he is performing around here in Lan Kwan Fong in central & sometime in Shanghai, he will appear in Uncle Ray's programme once in a while talking about music, Romeo should be in Hong Kong as well, I am sure..seen him occassionally here on some concert as musical director, dont know what happen to Rudy these day, only knew he cant sing any more...!!

@shatinterry I´m not surprise if Danny returned from Canada afterall Hongkong is his homeland although he is a pure Filipino. Hope to see them again. I might drop by HK then on my way back home to Pinas. Thanks a lot.

@riversidemlc there is no publication of this song on CD all these years, I've only heard it one or twice on Uncle Ray's program, so lucky to find it from a special link, just had it uploaded here on YT for all Danny Diaz fans...
