A surprise visit to the Crimea resulted in unexpected and pleasing surprises that will long be remembered , 2 days " exploring " had me spoilt for choice . Certainly the pleasant early summer sunshine made visiting Yalta , Sevastopol and the equaly famous Balaklava just that " Xtra " special.

Where else could the " unexpected " become reality.. for example a EAGLE landed on my shoulders .,much to on-lookers amusement and " heart stopping " fright for me ! ? .

Where else can you see the exact location where the " future " of Europe was " finalised " by Joseph Stalin ., Theodore Roosevelt & Winston Churchill in 1945... or indeed Balaklava.... enjoy the picture / video collage for the answers.

  • I was only able to make literaly a " Whistle-Stop Tour " via Kiev & Simferopol airports...resided in Sevastopol and used the City as a 2 day base to visit Livadia Palace , Sevastopol & Balaklava.

I was thrilled to visit the locations as they are of course steeped in History... as for Russia wanting Sevastopol back I truly hope that commonsense prevails and Both Countries can compromise.. The Marine location on the Black-Sea may well be to everyones benefit in the decades to come.

  • It would not be pretty, that is fro sure:-) Sevastopol is a proud city. But right now there are tensions regarding the political sympathies towards Russia. Russia wants Sevastopol back and Ukraine is surly against that idea.

I wanted to ask you. Did you have time to see the central Crimea? The old ruins of ancient towns like Mangup or Eski Kermen?

    Best regards!

  • Germany of course defeated Russia and what I saw on Russia Today's news clips afterwards shows the result was unfortunate...I can imagine the Ukrainain / Russian " Banter " amongst the respective fans based in Sevastopol et al was at a high amusing tempo......

  • Thank you ! We were lucky to beat England :-)

I used to cheer for England in world Cup finals, even when Germany held sway:-)

  • And the Ukrainian Football Team are not too bad either...good win over England.

The Crimea is certainly a destination I will re-visit as soon as possible.

  • My home:-) Most beautiful place in the world!
