Gameplay from 3D Tachyon Fighter playing on the Memotech MTX512. Retro Gaming.

This is not a review, walkthrough, playthrough, or demonstration of my playing ability.
It's more a case of me speaking my thoughts while playing the games, many for the first time, and most for the first time in a very long time... so it's all a little spontaneous and random.
Predictably, as I never practice before recording, I usually play very badly.

Given that I am playing many of these games for the first time, and everything I say is completely off the cuff, you probably shouldn't take what I say overly seriously. The opinions that I express are my feelings at the time, but it's entirely possible that they would be different if I were to take the time to get to grips with the game.

However, given that these videos are intended to show that "first time experience", I believe they have some validity or merit.

  • Fly between the towers a few times, then aliens come towards you.

Shoot them all, then advance to the next level.

Fly through arches and the level after that is little like the trench in Star Wars.

At the end of each set of levels, get a code which can be typed to skip the level in future.

The next level set have more aliens, and are faster.

Yes, it was based on Buck Rogers,as seen (once at a trade show) on the TI-99/4A.

  • @andyzkey Thanks for the info. I didn't know about the level code thing. I didn't get that far... lol.

It's always a pleasure to hear from the programmers of the games I make vids of. (unless I've upset them by saying bad things, and then it's embarrassing).

  • lol my subscriptions is broken at times, it told me this was a new video that was uploaded 6min's ago, but i saw this yesterday :P :L

  • @SteveBenway It's a Buck Rogers clone alright; I remember a very early issue of Zzap! 64 giving the official C64 conversion bit of a drubbing. By coincidence, I just watched a video from Ben Heckendorm, where he was playing the 8-bit Atari version on an Atari 800 laptop he'd built! I briefly had an MTX 512 that I got off eBay, but I never used it, so I sold it back. It's often difficult to get software for the less-popular systems, something I found with the CGL/Sord M5 and Colour Genie.

  • I really like the smoothness of sprite-movement on the Memotech MTX512 - I knew nothing about the machine, but if I'd seen it back in those "halcyon" days I'd have been sold on the graphical capabilities alone...

  • That game looks like a lot of fun though it does seem pretty bloody hard, haha.

  • That's very impressive graphics for such an old system!

  • Wow... had I seen this back in the day I'd have freaked out. I think it's safe to say it was pretty ahead of it's time. Especially considering the hardware.
