I'm 43 and recently lost what I thought was a secure job. I've decided to get back into school for a career change and will begin nursing school this fall of 2011. As a guy, I'm glad to have found you and your website. I am a little apprehensive starting over in mid-life but excited at the same time. Thanks for your info!

The nursing schools in my town have a 3 year waiting list.Too long of a wait for people who have families to support.

Each school I have interacted with has a distinctly "sensitive female" point of view.
I am doing my best in a transition from 14 years of firefighting, I have a 3.98 GPA, and I'm still struggling to gain entry into a program because I don't fit "the profile" of woman/gay man.
It's important for anyone looking at nursing education to realize that this process is extremely trying in many ways.
