How exactly are their actions having an effect that is opposite from what was intended? So the situation is: A bunch of dudes are naked and cold camping together. The Action: One of them starts singing a song and the others listen. The intended effect: To pass the time. What exactly happens that unexpected? What you meant to say was "this is a funny coincidence" Funny coincidences are not irony.
