  • it is why Maynard Ferguson is one of the greatest trumpet players of all time.. he deserves to take his seat with the likes of Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie..etc..

  • they must have a real big seat upstairs.... because each one of them is the best.... it is not a competion guys.. but if I wanted to hear miles Davis I would be watching Miles... so please guys... I believe they came on earth to show us their abilities and they were all masters.... so I bow myself to the greatest trumpet player I've ever heard... thank you Maynard, I enjoyed all of your pieces of art... i'll always be greatfull to have the privillege to hear the sounds of your Trumpet !!!!

  • @lilyellowduckiePhD dont forget miles is allso famous for takeing credit from lots of songs that he did not wrote. Take freedom jazz dance for example.

  • @MegaBanne True, but you could argue that about armstrong too. Dizzy has him in technique but not range. The reason those guys are considered the greatest is because they literally created their respective styles of jazz... Miles Davis was known for his tone, melodic ideas, and ability to continually push the envelope and evolve his playing styles. Thats why he's considered one of "the best". Don't get me wrong though, Maynard does deserve that title as well. I'm just sayin.

  • @eccentricXXX Miles Was not near Maynard when it came to technique.

  • RIP

  • @UpperRegister That is true. Some people must think Maynard's carreer started with "Rocky" ! People should listen to his Charlie Barnet, Stan Kenton and Birdland band recordings, perhaps the finest trumpet work ever...

  • @iamzeforgs amazing I have heard a lot of Maynard but never heard this one !!!!!!!

  • This was a heavy hitter....Loved it! Maynard forever! We miss him and always will. I was very fortunate to hear and see him, learned from him, talked to him.... and his many fine band members like Jimmy Ford , Willie Madien, and Rick Kieffer. Chuck Howen 12-3-10

  • @eccentricXXX Agreed. Ditto w/ Bill Chase.

  • I love to watch him, it is like with Michael Bolton, I always wait for his head to explode. No doubt he has talent and can hit high notes, and has found his niche, but even as a kid, I was always fascinated, waiting for him to play again to see if he would blow up.
