@Koroistro Actually that was laziness. But if you need a reason, maybe the 'differed' regeneration erased what was meant to be the normal timeline (Tennant; Smith) and some elements of what was meant to be seeped through to the new timeline (Simm MasterDoctor).

But yeah, the reason was laziness.

It'd just be weird if the Doctor regenerated into a different person. I can't see it ever happening. The Doctor'll always be same person,even though he looks different each regeneration.

@NaturallyIdiots In all honesty, had that been the case I think she might have had a better understanding of what it means to be a companion to the Doctor than she ever really got.

This would be a great story idea to have when Matt Smith has to regenerate, the master makes his completely unexpected return and somehow becomes the Doctor's new incarnation. It could be like he planned to lock onto the Doctor's DNA or something sciency like that and created a machine that would allow him to take over the Doctor's body at the moment of regeneration. At then it twists at the end; the doctor is still alive, as the new incarnation of the master and to be continued would follow
