Journey home from school by bike, Assen Netherlands

This is the route of my daughter's cycle route home from school in Assen, using the sort of bike paths which go virtually everywhere in the Netherlands.

Most of the journey is on good quality cycle path away from the road and not shared with pedestrians.

The route passes a primary school and part of a kinderboerderij (city farm).

If I was to drive between home and school I would have to stop at a set of traffic lights at a junction of a major road which is bypassed by the underpass shown in the video. It would inevitably take long than cycling, and the journey doesn't look so nice that way either.

We're lucky to be so close. Some children travel up to 20 km to the same school by bike. However, their parents can be safe in the knowledge that they make the entire journey in similar conditions to this.

Can you record it during winter as well when it is rainy or below zero?

@aliciverici See some of my other videos, showing people riding in the rain, when it's frozen etc. There are virtually as many trips here by bike in the winter as in the summer.

@twilwel I think everybody who has cycled in London will be enthusiastic about NL cycling infrastructure...I love it and wish everywhere could learn from the Dutch example...ditch the cars and get on bikes!
