The Arab dictators may be in America's pocket but, says Noam Chomsky, polls show repeatedly that it is the United States and Israel that are viewed as the greatest threat to the vast majority of the Arab populations. This is why when asked they say they would feel safer if Iran did have nuclear weapons.

United States did not nuke Japan to end the war, they nuked Japan because they wanted to have a show of force to the Soviets. The Japanese civilians were just a convenient opportunity.

What the Japanese did to the Chinese in WW2 is unequaled in it's cruelty. Absolutely monstrous.

Japan attacked the United States. We had the moral high ground. The Japanese killed thousands of Chinese and were brutal. I fully support the decision to use the nukes and it was the right way to end the war quickly.

One thing is clear we did not need to nuke two populated cities as we could have droped the bomb on small hick farms or something and they japanese would have gotten the point. We nuked them to see what would happen and show the world what we could do with it.

Japan was defeated in the fact that they were militarily inefective to make an offensive war, but the subjugation of japan was the u.s goal and would have have had many years of fighting. they would of probably ended up in a guerilla war as the japanese people would literaly have rather died than surender until the emperor told them to surrender.

I heard some general dude say somewhere that they had alternative options such as nuking a non inhabited location etc. but that they decided to nuke those specific locations for a few options 1.they wanted to see documented effects of the weapon on military locals and people 2. and most importantly they wanted to end the war before russia could deploy there military east as they originaly planned a joint strike "this allowed the u.s.a to keep japan for them selves and is the main reason"

Even IF the Japanese goverment had gone on resisting they would not have resisted far longer as the Soviets were knocking on their back door. They would have surrendered as soon as the Soviets had taken over Korea, but that is exactly why U.S dropped the bombs - they wanted Korea for themselves.

That is one reason. Additionally, although Japan was essentially defeated militarily, the country's Government refused to surrender. The bomb would be used to how that without surrender Japan would be totally annihilated. As testament to their defiance, they continued to deny surrender until about a week after both bombs were dropped (Hiroshima and Nagasaki), and only did so when the Emperor personally intervened.
