SMEI Camera Geometry: The Solar Mass Ejection Imager (SMEI) consists of three cameras, each with a field of view of roughly 60 degrees, that are oriented on the Coriolis spacecraft in such a way that, together, they image a strip of sky that is roughly 180 degrees wide. As the spacecraft moves through its Sun-synchronous polar orbit, the SMEI cameras sweep out nearly the entire sky in a pushbroom fashion. Due to the geometry of the orbit and the need to keep direct sunlight out of the SMEI cameras, there is an exclusion zone with a diameter of roughly 20 degrees in the sunward direction. (There is also a smaller exclusion zone in the anti-sunward direction.)

Since (nearly) the entire sky visible from the Earth is imaged every orbit (101 minutes), these images can be combined into a single "fisheye" image of the sky. This is accomplished using the Hammer-Aitoff projection. This is an equal-area map projection that displays the celestial sphere on an ellipse. For SMEI, the Hammer-Aitoff images are centered on the Sun and the point in the anti-sunward direction (from the perspective of the Earth) is mapped to the outer ellipse. This way, disturbances from the Sun will appear to originate at the center of the image and propagate outward as they travel to 1 A.U. and beyond. - Original reference: http://smei.nso.edu/image_info.html

  • Beautiful and amazing. Gemini and Auriga and the Galactic Anticenter are on the left side of the central black circle, and Sagittarius-Scorpius and the Galactic Center are on the right side of the black circle at 06:55. As the map is spinning from left to right we can see Leo and Virgo following Gemini in its translation. Orion and over it Auriga, are seen on the right of the central circle at 09:53 as we can see again Scorpius-Sagittarius on the left. Gemini-Auriga lost on the right at 12:25.

  • so interesting what happens in 12:21:2004 its like an eye or a tunnel

  • excellent

  • @BrodyLuv2 ..."Life Debt to Universe" is total life a species consumes/prevented from existence starting with the first bite or consumption of the first of its kind, to date by the entire species !

~a quantification use to assist a young up-coming sentient species to imagine meaning & direction going forward; to its individual and collective intent & practice beyond the mere act of consumption, comfort & continuance of self & species towards manifestation of potential

    ="god's secrete purpose"

  • @docatomics

Explain Life Debt for me Please Doc?

  • ...my Earth, is it the only home homo sapient shall have

~or are they smart enough to overcome their own stupidly and star trek off in migration

=as is the meaning of life, to survive ones own inevitable extinction long enough to learn how to repay one's species accumulated life debt back into the universe ?
