Part 1 Suction Entrapment Overview by AquaCal

Suction Entrapment has killed and injured bathers and it is very easily avoided. Most forms of entrapment are not well understood. The Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act provides for backup or disablement of swimming pool single drains. While most people understand body suction entrapment, the vast majority of pool entrapments do not involve suction and cannot be backed up. This overview of suction entrapment addresses Safety Vacuum Release Systems (SVRS), Atmospheric Vents, Dual Outlets (Dual Drains), Gravity Drainage, and Drain Disablement. Many systems are being improperly updated and Pool Owner/Operators should know that changing the cover is not enough.
