  • My first 5k was 30:11 but i've been running for about a year and got my time all the way down to 17:10! What are some of you're newer times?

  • @ortboys nice progress - I have been around a 9 minute mile for my best.

  • I will be running my first 5k on the 23rd. The hills are going to be hell on me as well lol. Keep up the great work. Let us know how is coming along!

  • @IYUB30 good luck. I've run a bunch of 5k's since then, and it's getting easier.

For me, the music makes a big difference in getting me pumped up. I work it out so that "Till I Collapse" by Eminem is on towards the end of a race. It has a good beat to keep pace and gets me fired up.

  • Congrats, brother! Well done!! :D Welcome to the wonderful world of hills. Find a hill. Run up it. Jog down it. Do this 10 times, once a week. It'll change the way you attack hills in any race in the world.

34:24 isn't bad at all for your first 5k. You'll get tons faster. Well done again!

  • Thanks - I'm going to sign up for a couple others in Sep and Oct to beat my time.

I don't know why I waited so long to get into this.

  • Dont worry about kids beating you I just did one of the biggest races in my hometown i got 22:58 and I had 3 kids 14 y/o and less beat me and place in the top 6 out of over 700 people. Kids dont get tired so if a kid beats you no big deal it can be expected. Just try to place high in your age group.

  • 1 year training my first 5k was at 31 mins and some change, However after that first 5k I pushed myself and 3 months later I am currently running 5k in 25mins my PB,, I want to get to the 20 mins before the end of the season

  • @IIIzAd3klll And it was a harder course

  • @IIIzAd3klll Ya ur right I had no training at the time I had just started running for about a week. I was also lazy and walked alot but now I can't even imagine walking during a race.

  • @ortboys Unless you ran the first time with no training... you are godlike. I doubt that such an extreme change could occur.

  • thanks for your help :)

  • @cpagliara73 I've run 5 or 6 5k's now and they have all permitted runners to use iPods. I especially like to use it, so I can monitor my progress with the Nike+ app.

I'd suggest asking the race organizers to be sure.
