no they are not the same. I have the first one in the DVD case that says VAMPIRE EFFECT and my uncle has the second one TWINS EFFECT> I'm not sure but I'm in japan so maybe the first one is that in america but I know is that VAmpre Effect is the first and Twins Effect is the second.

As i understand it...they are one and the same....except the sequel was called twins effect 2.
