The picture was taken when flows were at a high for this year of 16,000 cubic feet per second. Shoshone Falls is currently running at 9,000 cfs as of Monday, May 11. The show of the "Niagara of the West" is spectacular. The higher flows this spring are a result of the extra moisture our region has experienced and water releases from upstream in the Snake River. More than 50,000 visitors have marveled at the flows over the past three weeks. But within two weeks, farmers will begin diverting the water from the river for irrigation, and the water crashing over Shoshone Falls will become but a trickle compared to what you can see today.
