"I thought of you and where you'd gone
And let the world spin madly on"

Fandom: Doctor Who
Song: World Spins Madly On by The Weepies
Character: Sarah Jane Smith

Cherry Tree , Hate in my heart, love in my mind

Judges note: Sarah-Jane Smith travelled with the Doctor in the 70', but he left her on earth to go visit his home planet. She finally met him again in 2006, and after that meeting she was finally able to move on with her life. She got a son and started fighting aliens with a bunch of teenagers. The Doctor has 4 different faces in this vid which might be a bit confusing if you don't know the fandom, but the Doctor is pretty much the only adult male in this so hopefully it's alright.

After I heard the incredibly sad news of Elisabeth Sladens passing, I just had to make some sort of small tribute. And I really love Sarah Jane. A lot. She is my absolute favourite of the classic companions and well... she is just brilliant, really. And from what I understand, so was Lis...

So yeah, while everyone is vidding with new and exciting clips from yesterdays episode, I'm using footage from the seventies. So please excuse the bad quality of some of the clips...

And, as it turns out, the birthyear at the end of the vid is correct - aparrently there were a number of inaccurate obituaries that said she was born in 1948, but 1946 is the correct year. I think. Maybe. Honestly I'm confused. At the beginning of DW it said 1948, but several sources says 1946 - I read different things everywhere...

Voiceovers:

"Miss Smith?"
"Yes, Professor?"
"Come and meet your namesake. Doctor, er..."
"Doctor John Smith. How do you do, Miss Smith?"
"Hello."

"Are you coming?"

"You've done marvelously, Sarah! I'm very proud of you, I really am, I'm very proud of you!"

"Until we meet again Sarah"

  • whats 1:15-1:17 from?

  • @tiapest126 It's from the Sarah Jane Adventures episode called "Death of the Doctor".

  • Best tribute ever <3

  • @SunsetRainbow27 thank you :D

  • Oh wow. That was.....that was just beautiful. Perfect song choice, perfect clips, and it was all edited together so marvelously. Faving this one for sure!

Sarah Jane has always been special because she was big part of Doctor Who for me before I even really got into it (I caught the first two episodes of SJA on TV one day about a year ago, before I had ever even seen a Doctor Who episode). I had such hopes of getting to meet Lis Sladen someday. :,(

  • @JediLuckySeven Thanks so much :)

Lis Sladen was definitely someone I would have loved to meet too - she just seemed like a truly wonderful woman. It's such a shame :((

  • Best companion of all time, I'm just glad that the same charactor that my dad loved when he was my age got to become a part of my life. I don't know if Lis ever knew how much the fans loved her <3 I hope she knows now, where ever she is

RIP Lis, your story goes on forever

  • Beautiful. I'm really happy you used the old clips. Isn't it the heart of DW, that the time is passing (almost 50 years!), & it's still just... the Doctor? Lis was an amazing bond between the classic series & the new one. She seemed to be an amazing person & she'll never be forgotten.

  • TO MANY EMOTIONS!!!!

  • Now I'm definitely crying :( She was such a wonderful woman and her character on DW was always such a joy to see. Beautiful video.

  • You are correct on the birth year. Most people think it's 1948 because it's what she told people, but birth records reveal that she was born in 1946. Beautiful vid, a great tribute to a lovely woman.

  • Oh my, you made me cry. This is beautiful! I still haven't gotten to Sarah in the older series but I look forward to it, I loved her so much with Ten.

  • I think the confusiness with her birthyear must have to do with her being a time traveller?! x)

..I don't remember if I mentioned this, but I really quite like this video =)

  • I'm not crying, it's just been raining on my face.
