Derek is my nine-year-old nonverbal son with autism. "Mom" and "eat" are the first two words (as of yesterday) that he has been able to say and repeat somewhat on command! HUGE day for all of us! A few practice shots, then the real deal at the 1:52 mark.
My twin sons are autistic and about a year ago I was all but ready to institutionalise them and in may I finally taught the older twin to ride a bike he was 9 years old at the time. it was a game changer a complete turn around ! I remember how happy and emotional inwas and I told his mother I don't care if he has to ride a bike every minute of the day to keep him in focused on reality rather than the flapping, tantrums etc ! Oh! My God! He's got it! I'm crying too! My seven year old is still non-verbal. You and your child rock! People just don't realize how hard this is for them!

OK, I am crying my eyes out. I know what this feels like..... Mine was nonverbal too, and all of a sudden one day he said purple. And I nearly passed out... Best day ever.
